Parish Day of Service draws hundreds to rake, paint, pray, donate

Join us Saturday, Oct. 21, for our 9th annual Parish Day of Service, when we put our faith into action right here in Medina.

We’ve lined up opportunities for hundreds of parishioners to get involved on just a single day — whether you’re raking leaves for an elderly homeowner, serving lunch or painting at Cups Cafe, or playing bingo with nursing home residents.

We have jobs for all ages and abilities, in the morning, afternoon, or a few all day. Many can be completed at any part of the day (you decide!). We hope you’ll find a job that’s perfect for you, that suits your talents and abilities. Scout or renewal groups are very welcome! It’s a great opportunity to work together as a family while you serve a neighbor in need.

Step outside your comfort zone and make a craft with or play music for older residents at our nursing homes. Wash windows for an elderly parishioner who lives alone. Make no-sew fleece blankets in our Xavier Room for the toddlers served by Birthcare. We even are invited to do yard cleanup at the Hope Recovery Community’s farm on Washington Street (remember where there used to be sheep grazing?).

And it’s so much fun!

No time or ability to help? Donate items for Catholic Charities or Birthcare. Join in Morning Prayer with parishioners in our church, for the people we’re serving and the safety of our volunteers. There’s something for everyone. All who participate get a Day of Service T-shirt to wear that day. After your work is done, come back in your shirt for 5 p.m. Mass and dinner in the church basement, where we’ll get to see pictures and swap stories about the great work done all day.
