Anointing of the Sick
St. Francis Xavier Parish offers the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick to provide healing, comfort and strength to those dealing with significant health issues. During this sacrament, the parish priest uses a symbolic “laying on of hands” as a biblical sign of Jesus’ touch and the outpouring of the Spirit of strength, love and forgiveness. The priest also anoints the forehead and hands of the ill person with blessed oil.
When possible, it is best to schedule the anointing when the ill person is able to participate and understand the graces bestowed by this beautiful sacrament. He or she may wish to also take Communion or celebrate reconciliation. Although this anointing once was known as “last rites,” today the Church invites all who are seriously sick or undergoing surgery to receive the sacrament.
Please call the parish office at 330-725-4968 to request anointing. We pray for you!
