Marriage
The sacrament of marriage is a holy covenant whereby a man and woman are joined on their life’s journey by Jesus Christ, who promises to bless, sustain and rejoice in their union.
At St. Francis Xavier, we rejoice in the vocation of marriage and offer our guidance and encouragement to support the couple. We ask married couples to register with the parish at least six months prior to the wedding date so that adequate preparation may be offered in the form of individual meetings with our priests or deacons, ceremony preparation and Pre-Cana attendance.
Pre-Cana
Pre-Cana is a one-day program designed to create an increased awareness of the responsibilities and realities of Christian married life. The program is presented in local parishes by a team of married couples who speak on a range of subjects with their real-life examples. St. Francis Xavier does not offer Pre-Cana at this time, however, click here for a list of locations in our Cleveland Diocese.
We ask that you first call the church office to reserve a date prior to booking a reception location. We have prepared a Wedding Guidelines booklet to help you plan the liturgy. To register, please call the parish office at 330-725-4968. Congratulations!
Seven-Day Virtual Marriage Retreats
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has created the website www.foryourmarriage.org full of useful information to help support marriages, including daily marriage tips, blogs by and about real couples, parenting, family life and much more.
One of the most inventive resources is the seven-day virtual retreat — two different ones are available — where each day, for seven days, you set aside a short time for prayer and think about ways to strengthen your marriage. They can be done alone or with your spouse.
