Parish Day of Service 2016

PDSgoudyWow! What a great time we had with our second Parish Day of Service. Thanks to the nearly 300 people who gave a few hours to a full day to be of service in our community. It was a hot day, but we got lots of yard work done and mulch spread. We cleaned gutters and assembled no-sew fleece blankets for toddlers. We played games with low-income youngsters and enjoyed rootbeer floats with nursing home residents. We cleaned an old school-turned-community-center and the offices of Catholic Charities, so more of their donations can be spent providing services to those who need them. We spent a full day painting an old shed at the Medina County Home — and still need to go back to finish the job (once the yellowjackets are gone). We raked gravel at an indoor horse arena and painted the corral fence to he
lp out at a therapeutic horseback riding ministry that serves disabled youth. We pulled more weeds than you can shake a stick at! We didn’t let the fact that 1200 runners were criss-crossing the streets of Medina that morning stop us from helping — we joined them to dismantle water stations and staff an after-race party that benefited Stand Up for Downs. We even found time to help Fr. Tony by washing classroom walls in our own school so they can be painted this summer.

Parishioners who volunteered were asked to send us your pictures from the 35+ job sites, and many of them were included in this video assembled by Stephen Hamilton. Enjoy — and make plans to join us next year!
