Lenten Soup & Scripture opportunities

Comment are off

soup and breadDuring Lent, the Church invites us to spend a little more time in prayer and fasting as we prepare our hearts for Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection. Join your parish family for a simple meal of soup and bread before a beautiful service of music and prayer on Wednesdays of Lent.

We will gather at 6 p.m. in the Church Basement and at 7 p.m. in the Church:

  • Feb. 17
  • March 2
  • March 9
  • March 16

Bring a pot of soup or a loaf of bread to share if you wish. Or, just come and share in what’s provided. We’ll have water to drink and we’ll use the parish’s bowls/plates/utensils from the basement kitchen.  If you’re able, sign up here to let us know when you’ll be bringing food, so we can plan accordingly!

The prayer services will follow the Rite of the Christian Initiation of Adults’ scrutinies, which are based on Gospel stories. The Feb. 17  service will feature parishioner Cathy Fafrak on the piano. Ryan Neal, our director of music ministries, will sing Michael Joncas’ “O Joyful Light.” The service will focus on honoring the light of the Christ Candle, with psalms, readings, a Gospel and intercessions, using incense to symbolize our prayers rising to God.

The remaining services are:

  • March 2: The RCIA First Scutiny: The Woman at the Well
  • March 9: The Second  Scrutiny: The Man Born Blind
  • March 16: The RCIA Third Scrutiny: The Resurrection of Lazarus
Each service, which will last 30-45 minutes, will combine hymns, readings and solo music. You are welcome to come for only the meal or only the prayer service, as your schedule permits.
