Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday is a day of universal fast and abstinence in the Church. Even though Feb. 14 is celebrated by many couples as Valentine’s Day, Bishop Malesic has given no dispensation from the obligation to abstain from meat and fast for this day that marks the solemn beginning of Lent.

Catholics age 14 and older may eat only one full meal and two smaller meals which, combined, would not equal a single normal meal. Additionally, Catholics may not eat meat.

An Evening with Bishop Woost

Do we genuflect or bow before the altar? Is it OK to receive communion in my hand? Can we hold hands during the Our Father? Why is there an “obligation” to attend Mass each week?

Bishop Michael G. Woost is an engaging scholar of the liturgy, but more importantly, he passionately loves God and the Mass. In a 45- to 60-minute talk and PowerPoint, entitled Ars Celebrandi: Liturgical Ministers and their Participation in the Royal Priesthood, our diocese’s newest auxiliary bishop will present “whys” for the wise! All are encouraged to attend. Come with your questions!
