Bring your basket of Easter foods to be blessed

Many Catholics, especially those of Eastern European descent, have a tradition of bringing their baskets of food that will be enjoyed at Easter to be blessed on Holy Saturday. Here at St. Francis Xavier, Deacon Paul Kipfstuhl keeps this tradition alive with at short 3 p.m. service during which he will bless baskets of foods in the church. Most years, the front of the sanctuary is lined with nearly 100 baskets filled with meats, cheeses, breads, eggs, wine and even dog treats! Many of the baskets are lovingly decorated with flowers and other signs of the new life we anticipate with Jesus’ resurrection.
