Christmas in July donation drive helps stock the shelves of Battered Women’s Shelter

Comment are off

Thanks to all of you who brought items for our parish Christmas in July Donation Drive to benefit the Battered Women’s Shelter of Medina County. Your gifts touched the hearts of those who work with the many families — some of them our neighbors and friends — dealing with violence. This year more than 1,600 Medina County domestic violence victims will be served by the shelter.

Members of our parish ministry to assist the shelter have tallied the donations; those collected the first week were delivered to the shelter because, as a shelter staff member said, the shelves were nearly bare. Our ministry volunteers made arrangements for the remainder of the items to be delivered the second week.  They’ll update us with a full report as soon as possible.

The giving tree has been dismantled, but if you still want to make a donation of items or cash, it’s not too late! Those items can be dropped off at the parish office at any time.

Here is the list of items ALWAYS needed at the shelter.

Food: Peanut butter, jelly, cereals, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, pasta, tuna fish, cake and muffin mixes, frosting, mac & cheese, soups, ramen noodles, canned lunch meals, sugar, Kool Aid, juice (boxes and jugs)

Paper Products: Paper towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, laundry soap, dish soap, sponges, diapers/wipes

Medicine: Pain relievers, TUMS, Pepto-Bismol, Children’s Tylenol, allergy relievers

Summer Toys: Bubbles, squirt guns, jump ropes, hula hoops, water type toys, plastic pools

General: Adult/children’s underwear and socks (new/any size), sunscreen, flip flops, sunglasses, bug spray

Financial contributions are welcome and may be dropped off at the rectory office. Checks should be made payable to the Battered Women’s Shelter.
