The Christmas story is one of hope.

It is a message for each of us at any stage of life’s journey, reminding us that, into our own dark nights, Christ, the Light of the world, has come.

And we do not walk that journey alone. For 160 years, St. Francis Xavier Parish has embodied this commitment to reach beyond ourselves and accompany those in our Medina community through our works of mercy. Like our patron saint, who sailed halfway around the world to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to distant lands, we joyfully proclaim the gospel and embrace Christ’s call to service.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, we invite you to celebrate our remarkable journey as we commemorate the Dec. 3 feast day of St. Francis Xavier and the beginning of our 160th year as a parish. We will gather for 5 p.m. Mass, celebrate with a catered feast at 6 p.m., then lift our hearts in prayer and song with a stirring concert presented by our Music Ministry.

“Morning Star,” by composer Lloyd Larson, is a cantata that combines narration and choirs in songs that blend new and familiar Christmas melodies. Directed by Tom Bonezzi, the choir and orchestra will feature the talents of our parishioners and Medina community, including a portion in which the congregation is invited to join in song to celebrate Jesus, the Morning Star.

RSVPs are required for the feast day dinner. Seats are limited, and will fill up, so reserve your family’s places today. Registration will close by Nov. 27, or when space is filled. Register below, or call the parish office at 330-725-4968.

The church was full for the 2018 Christmas concert, featuring 60 adult and 40 youth singers from our parish and Medina community, and a mostly-student orchestra, under the direction of Tom Bonezzi.
