At St. Francis Xavier Parish, we typically celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation during the fall of a student’s ninth-grade year. Preparation for this sacrament begins in the fall of the student’s eighth-grade year.
During the summer of 2018, we’ve had a number of changes to our parish staff that have led us to rework some of our programs. That was particularly needed following the reassignment of Fr. Chris Cox, who used to direct our Confirmation preparation program, and the transition to Dawn and Deacon Bob Cavanaugh, who are its new leaders. The challenge was how to continue the program that Fr. Chris had started while transitioning to a new schedule and program for our incoming eighth-graders.
Rest assured, these changes are made not because we love to keep changing things, but rather in the BEST interest of the kids. We are here to help YOU help YOUR children become the best version of themselves while learning about their faith.
So, after much discernment, here’s the plan:
If your child attends Public School:
Our 2018-2019 eighth-graders in public school participate in a combination Edge/Confirmation program on Thursday evenings from 6:45-8:30 (they began Sept. 6). Three nights each month will be taught as an Edge night, and one will focus on Confirmation. Regardless of the material, the days/times will remain the same. Registration for Confirmation is included in the Edge registration. Confirmation will be in the fall of 2019.
If your child attends St. Francis Xavier School:
Our 2018-2019 eighth-graders who attend St. Francis Xavier School join their public-school friends for Confirmation classes one night each month on Thursday evenings from 6:45-8:30 (they began Sept. 20). They need to register for Confirmation only. Confirmation will be in the fall of 2019.
